This powerful Mantra salutes Shiva as the universal lord, omniscient, all-pervading,  limitless, and radiant, who creates, protects, and dissolves the universe, who destroys time, remains timeless and conquers death, and who remains ever auspicious and always a blessing. Chanting this Mantra regularly with devotion can earn Shiva's benevolent grace, destroy ignorance and illusion, grant Divine knowledge, and relieve devotees from the terrible cycle of birth and death. It is also regarded as a potent hymn for atonement from one's omissions and commissions and freeing from guilt.

Rudra is the fierce form of Shiva, who is kind-hearted and merciful. 'Om Rudraya Namaha,' meaning, 'I bow to Rudra, the holy one,' appears in Sri Rudram in Krishna Yajur Veda. It is a simple yet powerful Mantra that pays obeisance to the mighty God, worshiped in 11 different forms. 'Om Hreem Namah Shivaya' thus reveres the universal parents, Shiva and Shakti, together as the Guru Tattva, the principle of wisdom present in the universe. Chanting this potent Mantra that prays to Shiva, the Divine consciousness, and Shakti, the Divine energy, regularly with devotion and faith, can even help miracles happen in devotees' lives.
