His illusion dispelled thanks to the secret spiritual knowledge imparted by Krishna; Arjuna desired to see the Lord’s cosmic form. Krishna agreed and granted him the divine vision to see his incredible form.
With the splendour of 1000 Suns blazing together, the supreme Lord of Yog, in that wondrous form, had innumerable faces and eyes, was decorated with many ornaments and garlands, and wielded divine weapons. Seeing the entire universe in His physique, the awestruck Arjuna bowed before that breathtaking form with folded hands.
“O Lord, I see Brahma, Shiva, all Gods and beings in your infinite structure, that spreads everywhere without beginning or end, wearing a crown, holding a disc and club, and lustrous like a brilliant fire. I see you as the ultimate truth, imperishable and with unlimited power. With Sun and Moon as your eyes, and fire as your mouth, Gods take shelter in you, sages and saints sing your praise in prayers, while the celestials look at you in wonder. With many mouths, arms, legs, and frightening teeth, your magnificence permeates the space while the worlds tremble at your sight, along with me.
I have no courage or peace seeing your towering form, blazing eyes, wide-open mouths, and fire-like terrible teeth! I also see my enemies and warriors rushing into Your fearful mouths to be devoured by you. Have mercy and tell me, Who You Are?”
“I am the all-powerful Time that has come to destroy the worlds,” declared the supreme Lord. “Even without your efforts, your mighty enemies will all be destroyed. I have already slain the likes of Bheeshma, Drona, et al., so, just get up and fight; victory is yours.”
Trembling with fear at what he saw and heard, Arjuna praised the colossal Krishna as primordial God, omniscient and all-pervading, whom the evil dreaded, the universe rejoiced. Calling him variously as God of Gods, Father of the universe, mighty, valorous, and incomparable, an overwhelmed Arjuna saluted Him repeatedly and sought Krishna’s pardon for his disrespects to Him out of ignorance.
Unable to withstand the brilliance of the cosmic form, Arjuna then requested Krishna to return to His original pleasing form. The Lord obliged him, shed his Vishvarup, which none had seen before; which Arjuna, too, witnessed only by the divine vision, assumed his four-armed form and then returned as the two-armed Krishna.
Krishna blessed Arjuna and proclaimed that those devoted to Him, who performed their duties, detached and without malice, would undoubtedly reach Him.

“Here I reveal Myself to you, My beloved friend Arjuna,” says Krishna as he turned the limelight on Himself.
“I am the source of even Gods and seers but My origin, no one knows! Only those free of illusions and evil know me as the Supreme Universal Lord, unborn and beginning-less. All unique human attributes like the mind, intellect, truthfulness, contentment, courage, birth-death, joy-sorrow etc., arise in me. And from My mind were born sages, saints, and Manus, from whom all others evolved.
Through Bhakti Yoga, the wise surrender and unite with Me, the origin of all creation, with loving devotion and faith. And I dwell in their hearts, destroy ignorance, and bestow the divine knowledge to attain me.”
Understanding Krishna as the Supreme Divine Personality, Arjuna acknowledged the Lord’s all-pervasive greatness and requested Him to tell him about his glories and manifestations. And Krishna continued.
“I remain the beginning-middle-end of all beings, in whose hearts I reside, and in every category of beings and things, I reign as the greatest and the best!
Among Aditi’s sons, I am Vishnu; among the luminous, the Sun; among stars, the Moon; among Vedas, the Samaveda; and among lives, the consciousness.” Proceeding further, Krishna narrated what pride of place he occupied among – the Rudras, demons, mountains, rivers, priests, warriors, archers, water bodies, sages, seers, chants, science, immovable things, trees, celestials, humans, animals, birds, elephants, horses, cows, serpents, weapons, ancestors, law-dispensers and the like.
“Also, I am Brahma among creators, endless time among controls, Margsheersh among months, Gayatri among poetic meters, spring among seasons, virtue in the virtuous, wisdom in the wise, silence among secrets, all-encompassing death, origin of things yet-to-be, and all noble qualities. And among the Vrishnis, I am Krishna, and Oh Arjuna, among the Pandavas, I remain Arjun!
I am the seed that sprouts as living beings, and nothing, moving or otherwise, exists without Me. And infinite is My manifestations. Therefore, o vanquisher of enemies, anything wonderful, powerful, and glorious, be sure that it springs only from a spark of My unfathomable magnificence! And I pervade and sustain the whole of creation just by a fraction of My infinite being!”

Krishna then proceeds to enunciate profound, confidential and easy-to-practice wisdom that can release one from all miseries.
“I pervade this cosmic manifestation in entirety; create and sustain beings, who all dwell in Me, but they do not influence me. At the end of an epoch, all lives merge in My material energy and manifest again in the next, as I keep creating life forms, as per their nature. Still, I remain detached from these actions.
But when I Myself appear here in personal form, delusion prevents people from recognizing Me, and they become atheists and behave accordingly. But great souls know this Krishna as the ultimate source, cultivate knowledge, and worship Me with love and devotion. Some also pray to My infinite manifestations.
Further, I am all things and their essence, both matter and spirit, from Vedas and rituals to the offerings; whereas I also remain the Father, Mother, Master, Sustainer, Purifier, Friend and the sacred ‘Om.’ I am the eternal seed, origin, end, and the Supreme goal, while I only shine as the Sun and pour down as rain.
Those performing sacrifices and worshipping Me get purified of sins and enjoy celestial pleasures in heaven. But once their merits get over, they return to this world, and this entry-exit process continues.
However, I provide for and sustain all those ever absorbed in Me, whereas those devoid of this realization of My divinity have to be born again. But My devotees are sure to come only to me!
But it is enough if one offers Me just a leaf, flower, fruit or even water with love, devotion and pure consciousness; I would accept it delightfully. And whatever you do, Oh Parth, perform all actions as offerings to Me. For, this dedication will free you of all bondages, and you can be liberated and reach Me through attachment only to Me.
My worship can turn even worst sinners virtuous and grant them peace; for, none of My devotees ever go astray. And all those surrendering to me irrespective of their social standings, reach their lives’ supreme goal.
So, in this fleeting and painful world, think, revere and worship Me with body and mind, and be assured, you would come only to Me!”

Now Krishna goes on to explain some esoteric aspects to Arjuna.
“Brahman is the Supreme Reality, beyond destruction; one’s self is Adhyatma; worldly activities are Karma; the ever-changing physical manifestation is Adhibhuta; the Universal Godly form presiding over celestial entities is Adhidaiva. And I, dwelling in every being, am Adhiyajna, the Lord of Sacrifices!
Those remembering Me, the Supreme Divinity, while dying- the shedding of the body- are sure to come to Me, but that remembering is possible only through constant contemplation on Me. So, Oh Arjuna, always surrender your mind and intellect to Me, and fight the war; you would definitely reach me!
God is of an inconceivably divine form, most ancient, omniscient, subtlest, brightest, beyond the darkness of ignorance and support-incarnate. The one who, with Yog practice, fixes the life-force between the eyebrows and remembers the Lord at death attains Him, for certain. Restraining the bodily gates, fixing the mind to the heart and drawing the life-breath to head, establish in Yogic concentration to enter the divine.
Once they attain Me, the great souls are beyond further rebirth in this miserable, transient world.
Brahma’s every day and night lasts a thousand 4-epochs cycle. All lives emanate at this daybreak from an un-manifest source and return there at nightfall. Innumerable cycles of such births, deaths and rebirths keep on happening. But there is also an eternal dimension, transcendental to this creation, which is My Supreme Abode, reaching which none returns to the realm of this mortal world. Though the Supreme pervades all, and all beings reside in Him, devotion is the only way to know Him.
There are ways of dying, of which one leads to liberation and the other to rebirth. Those who realize Brahman, the Supreme and depart during the Sun’s 6-monthly Northern course, Moon’s bright fortnight and in bright-day time, reach the no-return destination; whereas those practising Vedic rituals, and pass away during the Sun’s Southern course, Moon’s dark fortnight, and night, reach celestial abodes, enjoy pleasures, and are back again on earth. Thus light takes one to liberation and darkness, to rebirth.
So, be in Yog, in union with the Almighty, always. The Yogis, who are aware of this secret, reach My Supreme Abode!”

Continuing the dialogue, Krishna declared that with the mind attached to him and surrendering to him through Bhakti Yog, one can know Him thoroughly. Then He added that he would reveal the ultimate knowledge and wisdom to Arjuna.
“Even among those who achieved perfection, hardly a few know Me. While My Material Energy has Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Space, Mind, Intellect, and Ego as its 8 components, My Soul Energy comprises the bodily souls of worldly lives. These energies encompass all living beings, and everything rests in Me. I am the source of all creation, which dissolves in Me, too.
Like the radiance of the Sun and Moon, the taste in water, and the eternal seed of all beings, I remain the very essence of everything, and I am beyond the 3 states of existence - Virtue, Passion, and Ignorance. Maya, My divine energy, which is tough to conquer, deludes people and prevents them from knowing Me as the imperishable, exalted, eternal, and without birth and change.
While the ignorant, lazy, deluded and the devilish don’t surrender to Me, the pious, who worship me with knowledge, remain devoted and very dear to Me. For these resolute-minded, I remain their supreme goal while they, My very self.
Only after the spiritual practice of many births one can get the knowledge to surrender to Me, which is very rare.
Whichever celestial Gods people worship, I steady their faith, and also I only arrange for what they get from those Gods. While these worshipers go to those deities’ abodes, I accept my devotees in myself. I am aware of the past, present and future, and about all life forms, but I am beyond their knowing.
Illusion creates the duality of desire and hatred, deluding all living things, but those whose virtuous acts destroy their sins are freed of such illusions. Those seeking shelter in Me, endeavouring to get liberated from old age and death, realize the Brahman, the self and the whole gamut of Karmic action.
The enlightened souls, knowing me as the governing principle of all matters, celestial Gods and sacrifices, will be fully conscious of Me, even at the moment of their death.”
